What Have I Bought?

Just been to my LFS. Saw some lovely fish labelled as 'Gold Spot Cat'. In a multi species tank. Looked in, seen some catfish, thought I liked them. Asked the assistant could I buy one. So she gets me one and puts it in a ag like they do. Get home, the fish in the bag isn't what I was looking at, is an absolutely tiny fish, 'bout 2cm long, nothing like the fish I was looking at.

Only thing is; what the hell is it? Searching for 'Gold Spot Cat' on interweb brings up nothing. It looks kind of like an otocinclus, same body shape, but it doesn't have the sucker mouth, it has a few barbels though, and is a yellowy colour with a few black spots.

Any ideas?

If it is a Shadow Catfish and there are a few others with that sort of pattern that escape me right now, is there any chance of you returning to the store to get five or more "friends"? They are social catfish that need company for confidence which love to just "hang out" mid water, often under any plants. My LFS has had a group of them for ~8 months now, but I when I discovered they come from acidic (~pH 5) blackwater and my tap water is hard alklaine, I had to resist getting them.

My sig is in reference to three Barilius species and a group of eight Weather Loaches, btw.

Yeah knowing more about them now, I probably will get some more. I actually misread your sig, I thought it said catfish lol.

(I do have a bit of a thing for catfish).
