im sick of this i go to every lfs near me and i look for neons

assistant: yes we have diamond neons and jumbo neons
me:jumbo neons?
assistant: yes there a new species
me:sre you sure there just not fully grown neons
assistant: no they are capable of growing to 3"

i cant find your average neon anywhere they used to sell them at about an inch each. if theyve grown whats the point in lableing them as a new specie there just fully grown and wont grow to 3" what the hell.

check your lfs for the new "specie" of JUMBO NEON!(sarcastically)

i think this hole jumbo neons is "BS". i just cant be bothered with lfs anymore im getting stuff from my friend who owns a lfs who tells good info i can trust and has good prices. neons 75p most small shoalers 75p or 10 for £6 bargin!

A quick search for 'Jumbo Neons' online shows that Jumbos only grow to 2 inches. Hmmm...if regular Neons grow to 2 inches, then what exactly is so 'jumbo' about the Jumbos? LOL I'm with you, Jumbo Neons are just a gimmick.

No Neon Tetra will grow to 3inch thats like 8cm double the average size of a Neon. You may get them to grow to 5-6cm but that would be tops.

same thing with platies, the average platies will grow up to just 2 inch long but sometimes you got some jumbo sized platies once in a while. Same thing with guppies, swordtails and some tetras. Jumbo neons are just old ones with good genetics.

Go to any petsmart, the neon tetras they sell are listed as "jumbo", but in actuallity they're the regular ones. As are most "jumbo" neons sold, it's not a new species, just a different name for them.

So whats wrong with jumbo neons? they have same color and same size of normal neons, just jumbo neon are full grown, majority of neons are young juvies.

Nothing, but most people like to buy fish that still need grow to reach full size for their aquarium

jumbo neons are just old neon tetras. Basically when the breeders in Asia have finished using a fish they sell them off as jumbo fish. Then they replace their breeding stock with younger fish and use them until they get too old.
