Ok, I got a bog standard Tetra 60l tank for my birthday and have started to cycle since Sunday (18th May). The light is integrated into the lid. Went to switch it on earlier today and nothing, no flicker, no light no nothing!!

Any suggestions as to why that would be?

Is it a dodgy light? Would you suggest taking the tank back?

It would be difficult to take it back now it is all filled etc.

Just take the light unit back. The tank can stay put, assuming you ring the shop in advance and let them know the situation. Most LFS are very understanding with these issues. How are you cycling? with ammonia? or is it just sat at the moment, circulating water and heating?

Whenever a customer at the LFS in which I work has a equipment issue, I always ask them to bring only to faulty equipment. Stripping the tank over an issue with a heater is pointless when I can issue a replacement and return the faulty equipment to the manufacturer without seeing the rest of the tank anyway. Same goes for lighting, filters e.t.c. the only time I need to see the tank is if it is leaking, for obvious reasons. In all other circumstances I just get the customer to bring in the offending item of equipment with their sales recipt :good:

All the best

Thanks for that, the main problem is that the light is part of the lid and the lid is hinged on the tank rather than being a separate unit.

I haven't yet found a way to separate the two bits, but will investigate and see.

At the moment the tank just has the filter running and the heater on. I am having some problems getting a hold of ammonia but think I have worked that out now thanks to the posts on here.

I will phone the lfs and see what they suggest.

Thanks

just check that the starter in it check see if it is properly in ..... well if it has 1 that is ....if its a strip lite it should have.

maybe just that :)
