I'm currently feeding my fish flake food once a day for 5 days, on the 6th day i feed 1/2 a frozen(which has been rinsed) cube of blood worm(according to my LFS this helps clear thier bowels before i do a water cahnge),then i leave a day without feeding them(the day i do a water change), i have Black neons, Balloon mollies, glowlight tetras and platties in my tank, am i feeding the correct food or is there something else i should be adding to their diet?

Many thanks,

Mark.

You can vary their diet by feeding granules, pellets and other frozen food like Daphnia, Mysis, Artemia etc.
Bloodworm can cause them to become bloated so should only be fed once a week. Daphnia helps clear their system so can be fed once a week also, although many fish aren't so keen on this one.

For the platies and mollies, you should add vegetable matter to their diet. The neons and glowlights really don't need it. There are flakes made for "vegetable loving" fish that would work well as a supplement for the livebearers.

Should i get the flakes or can i feed them i little "fresh" veg, if i can feed fresh do i need to prepare it in any way?

To use fresh veggies, they should be blanched to make them easier for the fish to eat. Most fish, including your livebearers, don't have huge grinding molars to process the greenery. A bit of lettuce leaf given a short dip in boiling water will soften up enough for them.

try peas, de-shell them and i find it helps if you squash them a little, mine go crazy for it!!!- also you could try brine shrimp, you can breed these at home- google it! although they are less nutritious than bloodworm they will set up your fishes natural hunting instinct
