Was thinking about getting a companion for my existing male betta. Possibly a blue crowntail female betta. Would they be able to cooperate together? Without the male getting aggressive? A chat with the staff at the pet store where I bought the male betta convinced me not to but i'd like to hear a second opinion here. Heres a picture of their living quarters. A 2 gallon octagon shaped tank. Added some plants and a little cove for him as well. No heater since my room has an appropiate temperature he's satisfied with. Here's the site where I got the idea: http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_Siamese...a_splendens.php

Then what would be a suitable companion? Besides a bottom dweller. Anything that eats tropical flakes? Since my betta dislikes them it would make make it easier during feeding time so they wouldn't fight over each others food.

Nothing really in a tank that small. Perhaps a single snail, or a couple of shrimp, but even those are risky.

The tank is far too small to house anything else, maybe a snail/shrimp like Oohfeeshy suggested but that's it.
I'm sure he's just as happy having the tank to himself anyway. :)

just rember to stock your tanks with what the betta wants to be with, not what you want to see in the tank.

In my bowl I kept my betta fish with a white cloud; it worked out perfectly, and the betta was happy chasing him around, and loved his companion. But definitely do NOT put a snail in there. Bettas do not let the snails escape their shell. They just continue nipping at them.

Was the Minnow happy to be chased around though? ;)

I second that.
Besides, White Cloud Mountain minnows are a shoaling fish and prefer to be in groups of at least 6
