ok i have 1 male betta and he will soon have a 30g tank all to himself.

what other fish would go well with him?

i was thinking some tetras? 15-20 maybe?

anything else?

i really have no idea what i want to go with him, would some female bettas go in well with him? if so how many can you have?

cheers

Paul

It's not advisable to put female bettas to stay with male bettas permanently. Go with the tetras, i'd put 10 cardinals, and an aditional 5 cories for cleanup crew

why not? do the males attack the females?

cardinals......do they live longer than the neon's?

cheers for the advice, definatly want some cories :D

To correct one piece of info, cardinals are NOT extra susceptible to plistophora. Neons are the ones who are very susceptible to it.

thanks, they look excellent :D i lot brighter than neons!

hope they are ok in my water though, it's normally about 7.6-7.8 PH (i've tried lots to get it down but the water here is quite hard as well) that said my other fish seem fine in this water (barbs, angels, gourami, red finned shark, bristlenose etc)

thanks for the advice......cardianls it is

I had with my betta (before he moved from 46 gallon to 5 gallon) platies and clown loaches, and they were fine. Cardinal tetras are good, as are any other livebearers such as swordtails and mollies (not lyretails) and definitely not guppies. Cories are great, but NO gouramies; even though they are both labyrinth fish and it would seem like they would get along, they don't. Pretty much avoid anything with long, flowing fins, or anything that is way too active, which can disrupt the betta, and you'll be fine.

guppies (females because the males will get nopped from the betta) and cory's are great for that job.

Yup, i'm loving the idea of cardinals and cories
