I've got a 50g corner tank that has a pair of Sajicas, a pair of rainbows (not a breeding pair) and a blue Acara in. There is also a bristlenose in there. There was 4 platies in there as well, but they've died off one by one over the last couple of months and the last one died this morning.
Anyway, I want to replace them with something a bit more interesting, and I was thinking about a puffer of some description, but I know very little about puffers and don't know if there are any that are freshwater ones that would mix with the current fish?
If not; what other fish could I add that would be reasonable active and mix with my cichlids. I'd like something that would be mid/upper dwelling as the cichlids tend to stay nearer to the bottom, but don't mind this if I can have a puffer!!!
Any and all suggestions are welcome!! :D

puffers, any type of puffers, and cichlids DO NOT MIX!! sorry to say, but it just won't work, unless of course you don't care about any of your fishes welfare.

as for what WILL work, i'm not really sure. i'll leave the part to the cichlid experts on here :D

This might sound funny, but my senegal bichirs fit the description of the fish you want  They are never on the bottom, they are usually flying around the top of the tank chasing eachother  Anyway, I think an ABF would be awesome  They can defend themselves from the cichlids, and stay on the top. They aren't very active, but their tails seem to flow with the water, and they're always out or in plants. They are in the fish index if you want to look them up

That is pretty much what I though!! Oh well, never hurts to ask!! :D

Dwarfs, Brilliant, I never though of ABF's I've always liked the look of them, but I don't think i've ever seen one in any LFS near me!! I like the Bichirs as well, but don't they get up to a foot long? I think that's probably too big!

Senegals get about ten inches max, not too big for your tank, but it's your opinion  ABFs are great, but are easily overlooked in the store, just look closely ;)
