I have just bought a 8 gallon bowfront freswater tropical tank, i am in the process of fishless cycling it...

What Fish would you recomend i put in it to beging with...

The fishless cycling process is lasting 3 weeks so should be mature enough to handle a few fish...

Any recomendations pls?

Regards

:D

kind of wrong forum to post this in mate....

but I would recommend 3 platies (1male, 2 female)

then in a week get 3 cory cats (peppered, spotted, or albino)

thats pretty much it for an 8 gallon, you could throw in one oto.

HI yes definately in the wrong section but I am sure a mod will see it and move it for you.

For a 8 gallon I would say dont mix sexes of any livebearers, unless you have a hungry larger fish to feed.

How about some male endlers, or a dwarf gourami to start then add some pygmy cories after a couple of weeks.

You should definately test your water params before adding anything tho.

A dwarf gourami might be a bit sensitive to go in a newly cycled tank; they don't make them hardy these days!

I'd go for the endlers if you can get them (yes, males) and pygmy corys.

Or pygmy rasboras instead of endlers.

Or a couple of African dwarf frogs.

Or a betta.

3 platies and 3 peppered corys would be too much for that tank; not only for its bioload, but also because both species like room to move around.

Maybe a Male Betta and either

1) 3 Corys
2) 3 Oto's - will eat algae
3) 2-3 African Dwarf Frogs, not African Clawed Frogs.

Or go for a group of 2-3 Male Guppies if you are looking for color. No fry to worry about that way.

How are you going about cycling the tank? Many lfs's will say just leave the tank empty for a couple of weeks to cycle it but this actually does nothing thats all.

How is this in the wrong section? He/she is just asking for a suggestion on stocking levels.
