I have just acquired my parents 5ft fish tank, after 26 years they decided enough was enough. So I have moved it to my boyfriends after alot of disagreements (but that is another story) and have it set up.

But I can't decide on what sort of fish that I would like in the tank, my parents have been of little help although they used to own an aquarium shop (before they had kids!).

The only fish that I plan to get is a red tail black shark as these are the most hardy fish I have ever met. We used to keep one in the tank years ago and it survived a few years with just the heater on and I think maybe the filter, can't remember, but it was never fed and the tank was filled with algae.

So I'm interested to hear what people think I should put in my tank.

You should get a Blue Gouramis. I have one (named Pops lol) and he is awesome. He gets a little big but he's very active in my tank. You'll never have to worry about over feeding....mine eats everything...have to add more so the other lil fishies can get some! They are really fun to watch!

Get some Clown Loaches. They are the most fun fish to watch. Once they get used to your tank, they will provide you with hours upon hours of entertainment!!!!!

With a tank that big, make good use of it and don't get a million community fish!!! Get something that needs a bigger tank and really appeals to your sense of taste. The shark would be cool, I wonder how many you could get in there?.... I'd check out all sorts of fish, there's a website (whose name I can't remember at the moment :*) ) where you enter how big your tank is and what kind of fish you'd like to get (ie, carnivore, herbivore ect. how big it gets, things like that) and they give you a list of all the fish that meet those requirements. Search on google, you'll find it...
