What Fish Should I Get!

Im taking a marine science at school next year, and we get to take care of a pond with fish in it, and also buy a fish and put it in a tank and take care of it through the whole year! Pretty cool huh! Well i was wondering what fish i should get, i dont want the fish to eat anyone elses fish and get yelled at , but dont want mine to get eaten either...for they will not have their own tanks. So any ideas let me know!

It's going to be pretty hard for people to give good response to be honest.

Need to know tank size...
What tank mates will be (I'm guessing you wont know this?)
Filtration...

I've gotta say, this is kinda worrying me if the school is just letting you put any fish into a tank together. It could be a total disaster!!
