I'm changing my 12 ga (US) tank from SW to FW (getting a 75 or 90 Ga US tank for SW) and giving it to my grandma. What fish should I get her? (based from poll)

4 thick lipped gourami, pleasant, peaceful, relatively tactile and comparatively hardy.
Perfect for a novice.

I like the Angels and was thinking of getting one. A freind of mine has two that havn't grown alot since last year. It looks like it would fit, would it?

Any other suggestions?

That depends who you ask...
IMHO 12gal would be too small, you have to take height into consideration as well i hear 18" bandied about alot but we went for a 23 1/2"for ours (before rapidly taking them back to the LFS, noobs! :S ) plus wouldn't your gran prefer a little more activity?
Is it a surprise, perhaps you could drag her to your LFS to have a look?

I could probebly do that....but she's 70yrs old, I think she'd be beggin me for a Nemo lol....And she'll be askin for these fish that are WAY to big lol.

I guess I'll take her to the store to look while I'm cleaning and setting up the tank.

Keep the voting comming guys!

If you can get the tank cycled, I'd go with about 10 neons. That's a good sized school and they really don't get much over an inch long so you wouldn't be overstocked. I love angels and have 4 in my 75 gallon but they will eventually need a larger tank. They don't grow terribly fast. Mine started about the size of a quarter and are now (a little over 2 years later) about 3" with the fins making them about 7 to 8 inches tall. That would be pushing it on a tank that was only 12" tall.

I'd get 6 female bettas, all different colors. They are highly social fish, easily tamed, will eat from her hand and are quite hardy. Not to mention, they are just so beautiful to watch. It's like having a rainbow in your tank.

I voted for neons, and other, with 6 neons, you could also perhaps have a few guppies, or small corys for the bottom of the tank. Freshwater shrimp go well in small tanks too as they don't add much bioload.

I might get a ghost shrimp for an invert, they look very cool.
