So I got a question. If we talk about feeding fish like brine shrimp and blood worms and stuff like that why can't fish eat other type of shrimps or worms?

COS THEY DON'T WANT TO

nah it's cos it's more nutritional value than say a earthworm

there are othr things you can feed you're fish with

most fish eat flakes anyway just others have to eat bloodworm or snail etc

Well no like mainly I was wondering about the shrimp I mean I don't get why if I were to put say a grass shrimp or a brown shrimp into the tank would my fish eat it? Would it cause harm? Or would they just not be interested?

I don't think brineshrimp has much nutrition at all, and I would think Earthworms do ?

Generally predatory fish will eat any kind of shrimp, insect, small animal that you add to the tank,

I thought about trying to add like a grass shrimp or brown shrimp but I didn't want to if it will harm the fish

Those are mainly used b/c they're available and about the right size. Just about all fish kept will eat most insects, shrimp, or worms that they can get into their mouths. There are some exceptions such as algae eaters, but otherwise it's all a potential meal.

Just make sure you chop it up small enough.

Lol i don't need to chop them, my snakehead just bites them into pieces and my bichirs, knife and cichlids all tuck into a noodle soup.

Edit: btw thanks for the confirmation dRobbyb, thought they were :good:

Any kind of shrimp or worms that your fish are big enough to eat should be fine. Brine shrimp are used because they are dirt cheap compared to buying other types individually and they are nice and small. Neocaradina are much larger and command a price based on their color like cherry red shrimp or any of the other color variants. They are far too expensive for me to use as fish food. There are lots of worms we use as fish food from the banana worms and Walter worms to the microworms, and even tubifex worms. People also feed the kinds of worms you might use to go fishing on the weekend. Some are too big for the fish to eat easily so they end up cut into pieces.
