As above what filter is powerful enough to run my Juwel Rio 400?

I already have a aqua one 500 external that i know is not powerful enough at all to power it!.. but i want to get another external to help run my tank, instead of buying all the media for the standard rio 400 jumbo internal which will cost me around £45

I HAVENT got hundreds to spend just need something that will help out the aqua one 500 and do the job?

Thanks Nettley :D

I have the new rio 400.

I used to run a fluval fx5 which was ok but they cost around £200 and look like giant dustbins lol

Iv now swapped that for 2 tetratec ex1200's. They are £89 each including delivery and are each rated for tanks of up to 500 litres. With a flow rate of 1200 lph without media and around 940 lph when full of media.

I don't use the spray bars they come with, just use the elbow as it increases the flow.

I also run one of them with an external 300w hydor heater which connects to the outlet pipe on the filter so there are no heaters inside the tank = less clutter and more room for fish :)

I see what you mean buy the size of the fx5 lol.. but the ex1200 sounds good although it will cost me double the price of getting media for the stand jumbo which i have 1500 lph and a 1000 lph power heads to run it, it was just the space the the jumbo takes up "/

Is this a cheap #14### filter make:

You could just buy 2 ex1200's and just run them as they come. That's what I do. No need for anything else in the tank.

Sorry iv only ever used fluvals such as the U2, 306, 405, 406 and fx5

And this is my 1st tetratec and it's better than all the fluvals iv had IMO. A lot of people seem to get on with eheim filters but as iv not had 1 before I can't give you advise on them :(

Just brought a fluval 405 to run along side my aqua one 500 :D

i have an aqua one 1250 series 2. good filter so far :good:

If I'm correct then the aqua one 500 is only suitable for tanks from 60-120 litre tanks and the older fluval 405 is for up to 400 litres so when full of media you should be looking at around 1200 lph.

You may find that it's not going to be enough but that may also depend on the fish you wish to stock the tank with. If you were to keep a few very small fish with a small bio load then you should be fine :) If I was you I'd replace te aqua one with another fluval 405 or even the newer fluval 406 when you can, you should be ok for a little while. You would then have sufficient filtration of around 1800 lph

Tetratec ex1200 are great. M using the bog standard media and it is top notch
