Hi
I am new to this forum and this is my first post

At the moment i have a Aqua one 380 and had it for some time now.

About 3 months ago i brought a second hand Aqua Art 60L for £20 complete and now going to set it up.

The measurements of the tank

Length 57cm
Width 30cm
Height 35cm

It's at my unit and cant tell you the make or model of the filter.
It's all original when brought.

I have done a search on this tank and a lot of the reviews are saying that the filter pads are hard to come buy, So i am considering if it would be best to fit another filter and do away with the original.

I will be fitting an undergravel tray and some good air stones.

What filter would be best to use for this tank.

Any ideas

IMO undergravels are kinda prehistoric now-a-days.

How about a good hang on back filter that does at least 5 times tank turnover. So 300liters per hour for turnover.

How much will one of those cost me, and what make or model would you sugest

Personally I am fan Aqua Clear fan for hang over style else I look at canisters

I would do Aqua Clear. Do a search for them and you should see some for sale on the net. You could compare that way and then see what you have locally :good:

canisters will be more expensive. a hob's are good for smaller tanks :)

BTW

^ good advice.

Yes, am I correct we're talking about 15 US gallons here? If so then an external cannister would be overkill (unfortunate since they are generally the best.) In which case I agree with the others that HOB would be next best choice and that AquaClear is the better choice of HOB because it has a more open media space where you are more free to do what you want with media.

Also agree that 5x turnover per hour is the good recommendation and be aware that unless you have special needs, the chemical filtration function of carbon can be left on the shelf until needed and that space within the filter better used by more biomedia. A good media sequence starting with incoming tank water is often, coarse sponge, ceramic rings, ceramic pebbles (if room), then finally fine sponge to catch small particles that may get by. You can take a look at what aquaclear offers and think about it from there. The members over in the hardware section can sometimes help too.

I have one of these tanks and the filter that came with it is pretty good. It's only a small tank after all.

As for the availability of the replacements, two things:
1) I find them to be readily available on the internet and in my LFS (and even the local pet shop).
2) You don't actually need to replace them, just rinse them in tank water now and again.

- Of course, as you say you bought it 2nd hand perhaps it has an old filter, and they have since upgraded to the filter I have. This would fit with the media being hard to get hold of. If this is the case then you can ignore me :good:
