Some of you know I am changing my 30 gallon to a female Betta community. Just one week ago I put a Penguin Bio-Wheel filter on it . I am not sure if the current is too much or not. It spits the water out mostly across the top but does create little bubbles all over the top. Anyway......it is kind of noisy. I am thinking of exchanging for another. What do you recommend ?

Hi
I have a 15 gallon female tank and it is filtered with a Fluval 2 internal filter. The flow is quite strong when turned on fully so i made a deflector thing out of plastic. Still get surface movement and a current under but my females seem to like it.

I have an Aquaone 7 galloner with an overhead trickle filter.....

I use the Penguin 100 Bio-wheel filter.

On another thread, someone suggested I use the plastic from a water (pepsi) bottle to divert the current. It seems it would work well, but I haven't personally executed it yet. I only have one male in my 29 gallon, and he hasn't stayed away from it, and I am still a bit concerned about reducing the effectiveness of the filter by changing the output (basically re-routing it to the pickup tube).

I can tell you that my local PetSmart has a female betta tank setup in the wall, with that strong current, and the females always appear to do just fine, some even seem to enjoy swimming in the current.

I had this same filter on a 10 gallon, both with just the male and with it divided in three and a female. It moved her, but she also seemed to like it a bit, but never figured out why. I did use a net with a sponge in it to slow it down a bit at that time, and currently have two nets on the end of it slowing the current a bit.

I would say if you are deeply concerned, the plastic from a 20 oz does look like it works wonders from the pictures. Here is the link that was given to me: http://www.fishforums.net/content/forum/84...thod-Ive-found/

Enjoy your sorority!

I have an Azoo 9 sponge filter in both my 10 gal. tanks. I love sponge filters as they are so simple they never break and are fantastic for biological filtration as well as aeration and mechanical filtration!
