Im new to taking care of fish what would be the easiest fish to look after but not a goldfish?

You would look for hardy fish like:
Guppies, Mollies, Tetras, Barbs, Gouramis, Loaches, some Algae eaters etc...

Guppies are easy to care for and breed but due to the amount of inbreeding for there colour they are less hardy, what size is the tank?

yup if you can tell us the size of the tank that would be a good start, also do you know the pH of your tap water? Fish like to be kept in different pH's, it will be easier to keep a fish in the correct pH and it'll be less likely to pick up diseases. So if you can tell us the pH of your water we can make suggestions for fish that would be happy in it :good:

also have a read of the link in my sig 'how to work out stocking lists' which tells you how to pick fish that are suitable for your tank and get on well with each other

I like some cichlids, Angles, and small fish because they beed a lot and you can have a lot of them. :good:

dont forget the s/fighters..... ive been told by many that thay arent teh best choice.... but form my experience in owning 5 of them... ive had no problems.... i had one that lived for 4 and a half years before it died for no particular reason... so i would recomend fighters... but it all comes down to ur personal preference...
regards, community

yee fighters or bettas ar great fish but don't do that well in communities however in a small tank on there own they thrive :good:
