Before I get this new 55 gallon I saw on craigslist about 30 minutes from where I live, I wanted to k ow what filter is best?
I'm thinking an eheim, but what size? The 2213 is rated for 60 gallons and is only $80 but is the 2215 worth the extra $20 to get up to 92 gallon rating?
I was also thinking an aqueon pro heater. Would a 150 watt suffice or should I get a 250 watt?

This tank is a great deal. It's a 55 x-high ( 31" x 13" x 30" ) I think that's what it was, that comes with an oak stand and hood and a T5 lighting unit for $60.

go for the larger Eheim and look at a higher wattage heater - 1 litre to a watt is a good rule, so 150w will be underpowered for the water volume.

I have a few extra heaters lying around should I do my 150 and an extra 50 or buy a new 200 or 250??
That's what I thought about the filter. It is only an extra $20 anyway and if I ever want to upgrade.

Another tank I'm looking at (standard 55 gallon, light unit, stand, 2 200 watt heaters for $100) says it has a 4' uv light unit. Is this good or....?

I'd say go with the taller one with the oak stand as I think the look of the stand etc is worth more than the added equipment

And the 2215 for the reason above if you ever want to upgrade you won't have to buy a new filter necessarily

I'd go for the new 250 watt heater because it looks better to have the one IMO however I guess you have a safety net if you have two Incase one breaks

Bae :good:

Oh they're both oak stands I think.... Here's the ads

55 x-high: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/fuo/3026149010.html

Regular 55: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/hsh/2975547458.html

And anyone know what a uv light is?

What type of wood would you say the x-high is?

Fluval 305 (260 gph with media in) rated for up to 70 gallons- $90
Eheim 2215 (164 gph with media in) rated up to 92 gallons- $100

Which should I get?

I have a 2215 as a secondary filter on one of my tanks, it's a great filter but I don't personally think it would cope with a 55gal tank on its own. The issue seems to be that although you can fits tons of media in it, the flow isn't great. The 12/16mm pipe limits flow. I go for the 2217 as it uses the fatter pupe.

Ahhhh ok then so I'll go with either the fluval 305 or the Rena xp1 then because I can't afford the 2217 at $150. $100-$125 is the most I can afford for the filter part.

Rena xp1- 250 gph. Rated up to 50 gallon tanks- $85

Fluval 305- 260 gph. Rated up 70 gallon tanks- $90

Not sure which has a better reputation, but I'm thinking the fluval.

Added another poll as well. This ones about heaters. Also updated the filter poll.

I have the xp2 on my 46g. I would use the Xp2 on a 55g. It gives me quite a bit of flow and I reduce it slightly.
