Hey, opions people on what other fish i should get in my new 48 litre trop tank. In It I Have:

2 Golden Mollies [M&F]
2 Rosey Barbs [M&F]
2 Fancy Guppies [M&M]
1 Blotched Red Wag Platy [I Think Female]
1 Red/White/Orange Swordtail [I Think Female]

I'm also Getting 6 Neon Tetras, So the fish has to be a community fish, Preferably Quite Bright [NOT A Betta]

I think you will need to post the dimentions of your tank (length/width/height) so that ppl can work out your waters surface area, as that is usually the limiting factor on the amount of fish you can keep (rather than overall volume). Also what you water stats are, as different types of fish prefer different pH and the like.

I'm certainly no expert but you may be up to your stocking limit for that size of tank.

Welcome to TFF btw!! :hi:

What type of molly are the golden mollies? I have them at 2" each so 4"
Rosy Barbs = 5.5" each so 11"
2 Guppies = 1.5" each so 3"
Platy = 1.5"
Swordtail 3"

So on your current stocking going by the guide of 1" per gallon you have 48l which is 12" of fish to play with.
You have (once adult size) 22.5" of fish in their which is almost double.

Many fish keepers push that boundary and keep up to 2" per gallon (or there abouts), but to allow for this you need alot of extra filtration and aeration to keep the fish in good condition. So this would be your first problem. Your next problem is you have a m+f pair of mollies, which means lots of babies. In a tank already pushing the stocking limit...this is quite worrying.

First off I wouldn't add any more fish AT ALL. And how long has it been since the tank was fully cycled? You may not be experiencing problems yet if the fish aren't fully grown. But I promise you that you will.

As posted above what are your tank dimensions and water stats?

Welcome to TFF :)

I agree with the above posts, and just a little question to Curios~ would it still effect the water if the babys got eaten after a day or so?

It might class as feeding a large amount of high protein live foods I guess? And so increase the amount of waste produced...
This could affect the water because the bacteria wouldn't be able to cope with the spike in the level of ammonia at a guess.

I agree with what has been said above. You are over your maximum stocking level unless you have double filtration and a mature tank and even then you are at your maximum.

If your tank isn't mature (6 months old+ and with no water issues) then you shouldn't even think about putting neons in whatever your stocking level as they don't tend to survive in newly established tanks.
