Hi all I have a Juewl Rio 180 that I want to convert over to marine I have removed the filter box from the corner, could you guys tell me what I will need to get to turn it to marine. Will I need a protein skimmer? How much live rock? thanks in advance.

We recently set up a Rena 180 litre tank and ended up with the following:

22kg of live rock
Protein skimmer
Power heads
Overhead lighting (I think this is optional depending on whether you want corals)
External filter
Heater
Coral sand
Hydrometer (for testing salinity)
Liquid test kit

That's all I can think of at the moment but someone else may fill in the gaps if I've missed anything!

No it wont be as the juewl lights are only t8`s you will need t5`s I did start off with an arcadia i bar but thought I would be limited to certain corals but now I have an arcadi overtanks luminare with 4xt5`s and I can keep most things apart from sps corals.

cheers!

when u say t8 t5 etc what does it exactly mean? when ppl were refering to T5 Arcadia's etc i thought it was a model number etc

No its the bulb type t8 is the fat tubes you currently have t5`s are high power thinner tubes.

ahh brilliant cheers ,

sorry for jumping all over your threads today.... just so damn excited the misses said yes u can have our toy lol

For a little clarification diet, the "T" rating refers to the diameter in eigths of an inch. T5 is 5/8", T8 is 8/8", and T12 is 12/8". As mark mentioned, the thinner the diameter the more high-power the bulb.

Hi,

Sorry to hijack as well, but will T5 bulbs fit a juwel lighting unit?

Thanks,

AK

They will fit but will not fire without a ballast designed to run T5s.
