Hello, so I have this white fuzzy stuff growing on my artificial plants, decorations and airline tubing. It doesn't appear to have tenticles or anything, just looks like a white fuzz. I am cycling my tanks so I am assuming it is algae. I have taken the plants and decor and washed it off (in some tank water) but after a few days it comes back. I have had the lights off now for about a week with no change in the algae status. I realize that the high nitrates from cycling are probably not helping matters and I am sure that when I do the final water change I will be able to get rid of a lot of it. However, as it is in all of my tanks I have a feeling this is going to be a ongoing problem. I was just wondering if anyone knows what type of algea eater will eat this white algae? I have tried to get a picture of it but can't get a good one that shows it well, I will keep trying.

Thanks

FYI in the smaller tanks too 5 and 12 gallons, so will need something small. Also in the 55 gallon.

I'd say it's mould or fungus, not uncommon during tank cycling.

It will go away on it's own given time.

Thanks I just assumed it was algae, so if it is mould or fungus, it should go away after the large water change at the end. Do I need to treat with anything?

I would assume that it is bacteria or mold/fungus. Is it slimy? It shouldn't be harmful and should go away once the tank balances out(cycles).

Agree with the others. It should go away given time. I'd not hestitate to clean things when you are doing a water change gravel clean but I'd be really surprised if it were there at all once your tank hits a good six months maturity. Be sure to come back here and record in this thread once if finally -does- disappear, so we have some data, lol!

thanks guys. I will just wait until I do the final water change at the end of the cycle. I will update to let you know if it comes back. Thanks again.
