What Does Labored Breathing Look Like

I read in an article that German blue rams can sometimes suffer from labored breathing and then die. I am unsure what would be considered labored breathing for a fish. Is it something that is very noticable or something that is subtle? Is it considered gasping at the top of the tank? Just not sure. Thanks for the help.

There is nothing more subtle about a fish with labored breathing than there is about a person with labored breathing. If it looks like they are having trouble getting enough oxygen, it is labored breathing. Gasping at the surface and rapid movement of the gill covers might be some symptoms that are easily quantified.
