What Does Bump Mean On A Topic?

Hi all,
what does 'bump' mean on a topic it keeps on showing up!!

When someone bumps a topic, its usually because it hasn't been replied to. The 'bumper' is usually the topic author.

bumping just makes the current thread be back to the top of the list.

I wondered this when I first joined.
Basically when more new posts get created the post drops down so people dont see it as much.
So bumping it takes it back to the top and gets noticed more.
And more people will give anwsers etc.

Bumping excessively is annoying so bump only 1-2 times a day and only when it drops below approx 10th listing within a category.

I'm not sure if it has any basis in it's original origin, but I always believed it to mean "Bring up my post"

I'm not sure without reading through all the rules of this forums but many forums have rules regarding bumping so be careful if you are planning on doing it to increase exposure when selling your fish
