I just use the lead weights of old tank plants .

stick it through the edge of the cucumber and drop it in .

No paying £5 for a "screwcumber" for me thank you very much!!

boil/blanch it and it should sink..some people peel a piece of the skin away from the meaty part and wedge it under a rock/wood/oranment to hold the rest down...HTH
