What Do You Use To Change Your Water?

The point about not chucking dirty tank water down the drain is that chemicals/disease/parasites from dirty tank water may get into the water system and pollute rivers, or spread disease or parasites to wild fish. Very slim chance of that happening in my view but to be on safe side I chuck my dirty tank water on the garden. Plus it's good for the plants!

yea but i dont have a garden :fun: i live in a flat. i think the drains have enough parasites, deseases etc in them already lol or enough to kill whatever aquarium fish have to offer. they aren't the cleanest of places.
is the "bad" water really good for plants? like a cheap fertilliser sorta thing? hummm might try it :fun:

Wll then simply yell "gardi loo" and let er rip off the balcony!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont turn my heater off and i havent had any accidents. My heater is probably shatterproof i take it.

I use a washign up bowl. Use the gravel cleaner to clean my sand and gravel mixture. Do about 2-3 of those then fill the wahign up bowl with new freshly treated water (treating at as it fills) and then add it back. Always looks ace after a water change. It's crystal all the time but super crystal when it's fresh cleaned! :D

So you think you're going to get less nasty stuff in the water system by passing it through a sewage processing plant than if you shove it on your garden and let it soak through into the water table/local river

However I do agree that if you have plants you want to water you should use old tank water as it helps in the recycling of resources. The only time I advise against this is if you are medicating. Then I would definitely send it down the drain to stop mild antibiotics etc producing resistant strains. :good:

I use a bucket, siphon out and pour gently in :)

Hendrex, did you mean you take your sand out and clean it with fresh water than put it back in? How can i put it back in without burying my fish because it comes out in clumps.
