Hi i'm not strictly new to fish keeping but i've had a 125L tank for a few years with 5 black tetras and 2 male swordtails and I think it's about time i added some more fish! What do you think would go well in the tank with a sand substrate, i was also thinking of getting some shrimp. Thanks

I think you need more black tetras, get maybe 4 more so they become more relaxed in their environment.
After that, get some cories. They will really appreciate the sand you put down which they'll sift through their gills.

I will definitely get a few more black tetras as they're interesting to watch and I will take a look at the cories in my LFS :)

Keep the suggestions coming ;)

Just to let you all know that i decided to have a tank re-scape first instead, changed from sand to gravel (no corys now tho!) which for me has been really pleasing as the sand wasn't my favourite, i also added a lot more live plants and a few plastic/silk ones, i put in a bit of wood (can't remember now what it's called), it's not very big but I think it looks well.

Next will be the fish!

depending on where and how old the wood is it may leal tannis into the water giving it a tea colored look as well as lower the ph so dont be suprised if your water looks like tea! Anyways for the stocking i would get more tetras as another said and mabey an otto or two to keep the algae under controll

The wood is still soaking at the minute and still going tea coloured, patience is a virtue i guess....

Current stock in the tank is now 6 Black Tetras, 6 Head and taillight Tetras, 5 Swordtails, 1 Female Fighter and 1 Empire Gudgeon.

What would you guys think about a pair of Bolivian Rams in there?
