What do you do with your old tank water?

We throw it out in the grass outside, but maybe I should water my houseplants with it. Is it a good source of fertilizer?

Old tank water is good to water your plants I believe, but I'm not sure why. I know nitrates have something to do with it, but I know very little about plant chemistry other than they need light to grow.

Heard that as well. As a matter of fact I DO water plants with tank water....but have not seen a difference, they still die.

If your tank is nicely cycled the water wont be that beneficial, only if you have high nitrates or ammonia will it help the plants, but then you arent helping your fish are you!

Down the drain, it can be used for plants but I have never bothered.

I pour it in the garden and some for my houseplants as well. The poop, plant debris and other gunk should decompose and help the plants

Down the toilet even though I have lots of houseplants. I'm just lazy. The nitrates in the water are good for the plants, the same nitrates consumed by your aquarium plants. Nitrogen is a great fertilizer and is a main ingredient in lawn fertilizer. It's the component that helps the lawn turn deep green.

Down the bog. Unfortunately, it'd turn the water 'greenish' at one time, so thought better not. Now it goes to my plants, but as the previous response had said, it doesn't have everything a plant needs, so still add a touch of terrestial plant food.

Use them for watering garden plants. Other people have commented they grew fatter and healthier, probably all that fish poop and dirt became good fertilizer.

Usually i just pour it down the drain, but i am sometimes forced to water the plants with it by my mum.
