In my 10gal ive got guppies. They are very "active" guppies if u know what i mean...

All of the babies survive and are not eaten by other adult guppies. So in turn i end up with a massively overcrowded 10gallon tank...

All the pet stores around me dont take fish, and the ones that do always have a good supply of guppies, or dont take them so small. And by the time their big enough to get rid of, they are fillin' up my tank!

SO, in the next couple days, i will be adding some african cichlids (most likey 5-6 yellow labs) to my 29gal. with some other sort of loaches at the bottom. Can i put the baby gups in that tank, assuming the Africans will eat the babies?

I know it sounds mean and crual, and id hate to do it, but i dunno what to do with all these things. Ive already stocked a friends tank with these guppies! Is there any other alternatives to gettin rid of these babies? I love guppies and want to keep them, so no getting rid of all guppies.

Any help is great!

I can't see why it wouldn't work... The cichlids will love you for it...

I keep angels and pimelodus pictus with my mollies for that purpose... feel guilty, but it's the only way I can deal with the overcrowding.

If your in the UK, its techniclly illegal to feed any live vertabrates to another. But if you had a small predatory fish in the tank that would only eat the fry.... well, your not exactly feeding them to it, are you?

What kind of Africans? Anyone know if fry could cause bloat?

was just thinking the same myself.

Wolfdog posted that he was adding 6 Yellow Labs so I can only assume that the whole tank is an Mbuna community (??).

Ifthis is the case then I wouldn't think it a good idea because their diet must be predominantly vegetarian.

I know the occassional brine shrimp supplement is ok for Mbuna but I would have thought live fish/fry to contain too much protein and thus, as Sylvia comments, if eating this food everyday, they will end up with Bloat and die.

True. If I had loads of fry, I might accidently get a new tank to accidently keep an ACF who accidently gets fed guppy fry. If you think I'm not taking it seriously, I'm probably not, but it is illegal where I live. Not that anyones going to check though, obviously.

Yellow Labs eat mostly algea
eating live fry will most likely cause bloat, as would feeding them bloodworms.

put in bolivian rams or some other sort of smaller new world cichlid. they would eat them, all in a day

Wolf-dog, where are you? I'm in Toronto, Canada and would love guppy fry if you're willing to part with about 10 of them. I'm going to be stocking a 10 gallon soon. You can send me an email if you're interested and not too far away.

Hmm well i dunno if i wanna feed them to my soon to come Yellow Labs... if its gonna kill em'! Hmm I have am empty ten gallon now...(and yes it will be an all mbuna tank)

I wanted to do sumthing different in there, but what if i did a group of tetras and all male guppies? That could solve the problem tempereraly...

Laboul, i live in Vancouver Washington. (the state lol) Im willing to give away lots, but yur prolly too far away.

At one of my LFS they sell feeder guppies for 15cents a piece. Im thinkin i might see if they will take guppy fry and just dump them in with all their feeders...

:( Sniff...poor gups!
Anyway, Wolf, I'm gonna ask you some questions. I one of my newer tanks I have a batch of 10 guppies. All 6 of the females are pregnant. They have the huge gravid spot and they are all sooo fat now! Thing is, they seem to have been pregnant for AGES! How long are they actually pregnant for? Also, I might buy a breeding net for them tomorrow so the fry don't get eaten - when shall I put them in it? :D
Thanks!
