The pinned portion of this section will answer a lot questions. In addition, check out the Member's section, also pinned.

What you will need really depends on what kind of plants you want to grow, which is why I referred you to the link above. It involves some reading, but each tank profiled gives you the exact specifications on it's particular setup. If you like aspects of that setup, you can then apply it to you own planted tank.

Another section to look at is the Planted Tank journal subforum and browse through some of the journals. Many are long, but well worth the read, especially if you want to know all that having a plantd tank entails. My signature even has links to some of my journals, which don't require much to setup, and are relatively inexpensive.

Welcome to this section, I look forward to seeing your planted tank soon.

First thing you have to do is match lighting with the plants you want. Also the deeper the tank the more light you need to reach the plants. Easiest plants are java fern, which comes in many variation, and hornwort.

In place of co2 flourish excel by seachem and dry supplements can be used. Have found main important ferts are potassium sulfate and iron. The plants need a lot of potassium and iron helps the plants, which are red, stay red.

For test kits need at least test for ph, ammonia, and nitrates. Sometimes on EBay you find a multi- test kit for a good price.

For the winter you need a heater. I bought new ones on EBay.

A filter is debateable. Some whom have plants don't have filter. I just have 1 sponge filter.

If you can't find any plants locally try aquaticplantdepot.com. You can call them at 813-621-4213 and they may give you a better deal on the phone. I stopped by and got plants for $.3 to $1..
Beware this is not a cheap hobby.

MOD EDIT: Please don't directly link to another forum. The information that you had sited in other places is readily available here. Just do a search. I have removed the material. Thank you for your cooperation.

yeah i have kept fish for about 5 years lol. I have kept and bred bettas mostly but sa=tarted with a couple of community tanks but plants didnt seem to last. Ive got plenty of heaters, i have a little co2 kit which is suitable for the tank size im hoping for.Unfortunatly i cant shop from that website as im in the uk but thanks for that. Will look at links you have gave me now :good: thanks for the great help,
