Anyone done that before?

I really like the red koi angelfish in the US, but i can not find any in the UK. The red coverage of the fish is so stunning, almost cover the whole body of the fish, in UK, we only have normal koi angel fish.

I finnally find a seller who will post to the UK, however, he ask me to fax him all the paper he need to work on , but i have no idea what i need.

any suggestion welcome.

I live in US and he might be asking for the paper work for the shipment to go threw customs. If I were you I would call him back and ask him what exact papers he wanted. Or maybe head to your post office and see if they have what you need. I don't know any other kind of paper work he is asking for. I shipped plenty of times to Germany and I have no problems or extra papers to fill out. Maybe since its living animal in shipment theres extra precautions. Good Luck.

I'm betting the fish in the US probably came from germany, Indonesia or one of the other countries that commonly export fish. IMO it would be much easier to find a importer in the UK and try to get some through them. Thats how I get some of my fish. I'm not sure how it works over there, over here it is a complicated process.

You need a license to import livestock into the UK I believe he is requesting the paperwork of a transhipper. The only ones I have heard of are based in Germany you would be best going through a local shop.

yup deffinately go through a local shop otherwise it will cost a fortune (which it will anyway), you will to fill in a application form for a import permit and then it needs to meet biosecurity standards, it will need quarantining anywhere from 3 days to 6 months(this only happens with fish that aren't on the import list or ones that pose a health risk) and you will need to pay for all of this, very expensive way of getting the fish you want but well worth it in the end.

:( :/ i know it going to be expensive. But i searched everywhere, i just can not find in the UK.

so anyone in the UK done that? normally how much i have to pay regarding this?

i hope i can find a seller in Germany, but the only place i found this kinda red koi angel fish seems to be US.

thanks mate!

Dingweding, can you post a picture of the fish you want along with its latin name and I will have a look around for you.

If you're going down the DIY route then the EU will be a much better/easier bet than the US. Otherwise have a chat with a friendly shop owner.

For shipping inside the EU, just standort customs papers are all you are required to have, I believe, but I've never had to do that...

For shipments of fish from outside the EU, you need a livestock importers licence from defra, costing, brace yourself and sit down  £200ish. You that have a simgle shipment import charge of £30 to add on, VAT and obviously the cost of the fish and shippung... Total, for say 6 of these fish, you are talking about £300-£350... Sure you want to persue this route? You could of corse try do it on the illegal side, without the paperwork and £230 of extra costs, but the penalties of being caught are quire harsh...

Try get them through a UK shop or through the EU, it's far cheaper :good:

If the fish you are looking at are all red, just check they aren't dyed or painted in any way, as this often occurs. Dying fish leads to only abut 1 in 10 surviving to the point of sale, and the colours are only temperary

All the best

They are just normal Koi angels. Trick will be to go to the shop the day after deliveries and get them, as the solid coloured ones like that sell fast ;)

All the best
