i had a male and a female fighter the female was fine till one day she turned on the male and ate all his finns. i went to the pet shop and asked what i should do they sold me this display tank that holds 3 fighters and said it would go inside the tank i already have n that i could have 3 st living in their n they actually like been kept in small spaces. so i got another 2 male fighters one in my tank another in dispay tank along with the female in another section and the ill on in the third. but when i got home the display tank wouldnt go in my tank coz the lid keped comming off and fighters were alltogether luckly i got them out before any fighting, but i have a mail n female at room temp now. will they be ok? rang arround the local pet shops about dividers but no where has any that will fit the tank, any ideas n advice would be apprisiated! i know now i should have done my reserch n not just taken advise from the pet shop i will in futuer be reserchingpropperly beffore doing anything like this again.

i'd get some tupperware boxes from a local hardware store, and stick each fighter individually in one of them, making sure the water is heated. Filtering it is not critical as it will be temporary. Then i would buy another tank ASAP. You should never really have a male and a female in together. Seperate all your fighters. That's all i can really suggest.....

I use icecream buckets and float them in the tank. You can also use clothes pegs or bulldog clamps to hold the buckets onto the inside of the tank.
If you don't have room for them in the tank then put the icecream buckets on top of the fridge. Only half fill the buckets so the fish don't jump out.

Thanks for the replys, i feel so silly 4 not finding out more first!

i never thought of using icecream boxes...good idea...can they be used when you have fry too?

Another case of petstores giving BAD advice.
As the others have already said, you should seperate them ALL. You don't want to have a male and female together. Female bettas can be just as grumpy as the males alot of the times as you've already witnessed.

Anywho... you've already gotten some great advice already :)
Don't beat yourself up about the decisions you made though. Alot of us have been given false information and unfortunatly before.
Just have to live and learn :)
