I normally use Tetra AquaSafe Declorination to make my water safe for my betta, I read somewhere that Stress Coat can affect bettas skin does anyone know for sure. Plus what do you all recommend to use to declorinate your water? I live in an area where walmart is by only opportunity to obtain it and AquaSafe and Sress Coat is really the only 2 options, THANKS>

I switched to a cheap generic dechlorinator. It gets the job done, but I don't think it was as good as stress coat. The stress coat doesn't just dechlorinate, it also replenishes the slime coating lost during water changes and tank changes and stuff.

I read somewhere that the aloe vera in Stress Coat can or does irritate bettas due to their sensitivity? I don't know if this is true or not but I've always used AquaSafe with good results and never had a betta either die or get sick due to it as far as I know.

i use a combination of stresszyme and stress coat.

the fish seem to be doing great.

I use Aqua Plus and have been for the past 6 or 7 years keeping my bettas

I use Aquasafe when using tap water although I have switched over to RO water for my boys now.

i agree with stang if you can get r/o water get it pay about 2 quid a jerry can full or if you want long term buy one as im in the iddle of doing

cheers dane

I hope you people using RO use 'R/O Right' or some kind of mineral replacement powder. RO can be very dangerous for organisms living in the water. It is so pure that it pulls the minerals out of the fish via osmotic regulation (Hypotonic, Hypertonic).

Declorinators have been tested before by some people and it has shown that Prime is one of the best. That is what I use.

If you use RO make sure that you add salts/minerals back into the water!

I use Aquasafe for my betta/other tanks, I used to use one made for bettas, but it was pretty expensive, so I switched to Aquasafe.

Don't worry Danno, I use minerals in my RO water for all my tanks.

I think I'll stick with AquaSafe, it's been good for my fish over the last few years and my fish have always seemed to be in good health while using it. Of coarse I do plenty of water changes for my bettas also so as not to damage their health in anyway, Angel gets his water changed at least every Saturday if not more often---he's in a 5 U.S. gallon tank with no gravel and plenty of fun things to swim through. He's been healthy since I've had him which has been about 5 weeks now, I have another 5 gallon and a 3 gallon Critter Keeper that I'd like to set up soon for 2 more bettas. That will come soon but for the time being Angel is the only one we have at present time, he's my 7 yr. old daughters however like most Dads I'm the one that feeds and makes sure he has his water changes and is taken good care of. Not that I don't trust my 7 yr. old but kids will be kids and she is 7, maybe when she's 8 or maybe 9 she'll have more responsiblility with fish.
