Saw a slender female betta being sold with very dark stripes that never went away, the fish appeared very healthy and the water was clean. Never saw one like it before. Looked exactly like this including body color (which was completely clear), only difference was all the fins were cherry red.

Not sure on the colour but believe those are stress stripes which once gone and less stressed will show the true colouration, I think!!

That is called stress stripes! females and occasionally males will show these stripes if they are feeling a bit stressed for some reason or another, her usual colour is most likely blue or red which will become aparent once she relaxes, all bettas have the ability to stress stripe so it's not a colour as such :good: perhaps it helps them blend in with their environment so they don't look so conspicuious.

Ok that was a bad picture, i'm thinking this betta is a wild cross as none of the other bettas had this dark striping at the time. Take this fish and give it pure red fins (shorter though) and that is what the betta looks like to a T, this is a wild betta.

Id listen to Pippoodle hon as she owns most betta species types! :)

I know there are a lot of experienced betta keepers here, but I have done a lot of research and despite not really having owned THAT many bettas myself, I have owned females, and no matter what happened I've NEVER seen stress stripes so vivid like that one in the picture...

Are you guys SURE she doesn't have a bit of wild in her? Those just don't look like normal stress stripes to me.

But I could be completely wrong, after all you guys seem pretty sure. But I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.
