Hi, i want a communal malawi tank but i dont want cross-breeding to take place and have read that the way to stop this is not have an pairs/groups that look the same, so what can i keep with Labidochromis Caeruleus (yellow lab) that wont cross-breed with it as i think alot of yellow fish look the same

there's always a chance of cross breeding, but if you get the right m/f ratio and species that dont resemble each other, youll have a better chance of it not happening. what are your tank dimensions? labs being more peaceful than most can work with a large variety of other africans. give us your tank size and look around either local or online and see what you can get easily that you like and we can help you out.

A certain advising site suggests the following in a 55g...
5 x Yellow Lab (Labidochromis caeruleus)
5 x Pseudotropheus Acei (Pseudotropheus acei)
5 x Rusty Cichild (Iodotropheus Sprengerae)
1 x Bristlenose Pleco (Ancistrus sp.)

the tank is a RIO400, its 5ft long and 20"deep, not sure on hieght, but i also have 4 moori (dolphin cichlid) in there with them, i am going to get some more fish tomoro but dont kno what yet

with the moori in there i would stick with the more peaceful mbuna, labs, acei, and rusties or more haps or peacocks. having overly aggressive mbuna will stress out the more peaceful moori.
