Hullo chaps,

What else can I keep in my 125litre tank, with my Nimbochromis venustus and my mystery fish.

As I have said I intend to get a much bigger tank for my cichlids in a month or 6 weeeks but what ,for now, can I house with my 2 existing cichlids?

TBH Honest I really like Labidochromis caeruleus (edited after I found name.)

Also I like the smallish, pale blue ones with vertical black stripes.(I don't know their name, but they are small like Labidochromis caeruleus are, in the shop.

Could I have either of those?

My current fish are about 3 inches each, and I will get a 300l tank in a month, so don't worry about size in the long run.

Iam sorry to be lazy and not look it all up but all the latin names bewilder me and I would much prefer some suggestions, if you don't mind.

Thankyou
doris

Oh, and another thing, please.

Am I right in thinking that the smallish ones with yellow, black, and white horizontal stripes (I think I mean > Melanochromis Auratus) are both aggresive, and they hail from tankganyika?
I like those too, could I have them?

Thanks mate,

I think I may have another problem too.

My Juwel 125 has a powerhead which pulls 400 litres an hour through the filter.

Are cichlid tanks not supposed to have 8x plus, some bloke on here reccomends at least 10.

Mine only filters 3 and bit times an hour.

Should I step up my daily water change from 15% until I get a more capable powerhead.

(it is only 15% now because the tank has only been setup for a month, I was fishless cycling untill I was given my 2 cichlids. However the filter was seeded by being stuffed with media from my 5 tanks. I haven't tested it for a few days as I ran out of strips, but 5 days ago it was nearly finished.)

Thankyou Mr Jay,
you have been jolly helpful tonight, It seems as though all you have done for the last few hours is answer my cichilid based questions!

As I have said I don't know much about keeping fish, I have just sort of winged it for the last few months since I have taken up fishkeeping again, and cichlids are way outiside my previous experience.

Yea get yellow labs! The small blue ons with stripes could be zebras

I'd stick with the labs for now, since they're omnivores they'll do fine on what you are feeding the haps you have now, though a bit of veggie matter now and then wouldn't be a bad idea.

For future stocking once you upgrade, I'd go with other semi-aggressive haps. :good:
