What are you doing today?

You are lucky. Because very few people here actually go into banks any more many branches have closed. Our town used to have branches of 4 different banks, now there are none.
There are ATMs everywhere, we can get cash from our accounts and pay cash and cheques in at post office branches, cash back at supermarkets and business is done by internet banking, mobile apps or phone banking. No customers means banks close branches.

I was playing around with the new bank's on-line banking and found a pleasant surprise. I can link to my old bank through my new bank and transfer funds between the two.

Here, where I live, there are a brick and mortar banks all over the place.

On a related topic. I use my credit card to pay for almost all my purchases. Lately more and more stores and restaurants in my area are adding a 3% surcharge to the bill if you pay using a credit card. Anyone else experiencing this?

Many government offices and some stores will do that along with many vending machines. It is to recover the fee charged the vendor by the card issuer.

about 3 years ago we were at our favorite country store to get our sausage and a friend of mine whooped out a credit card for his and the owner added that 3% charge. he asked why and the guy said it's because the card companies are charging him more because of all the money back purchases on the cards now. I just pay cash while it's still legal.

I just had a biopsy done on the top of my head. I've had similar things before and they were uncomfortable, but this one clearly hit the spot. Youch.

It's nothing to worry about, but it isn't my idea of a fun thing to do on a snowy Tuesday morning.

This evening, I have a local aquarist coming over for a look at how I breed fish. He wants to get into fish breeding, and wants me to walk him though why I am set up as I am. I may not tell him most of it is because I'm disorganized and kind of lazy. I have a few hours to come up with sensible, logical reasons for all my improvised set ups...

I’m rearranging aquariums and getting my christmas tree electrical outlets in some kind of order to add two more aquariums . I have Nothobranchius guentherii coming in the first week of March , Nothobranchius rachovii eggs coming in late March or early April and I still am looking for Epiplatys dageti or Pachypanchax playfarii . The plan is to have all things set up by mid February so that when fish and eggs arrive all I have to do is plop them in . Ten aquariums now .

You should try to get your Nothobranchius egg seller to estimate hatching dates. I've had trouble with that when I bought eggs. If the eggs are laid here I am way better at hatching them at the right time, but eggs from elsewhere are trickier. There's never an exact date or anything like that, but at least if you can get close.

If you can't find dageti but can get ansorgii, jump at them. They are similar to keep and very beautiful.

I'm plotting to get some new species this Spring, though later than April. I'm thinking late May because of temperatures. I want a Nothobranchius, an Epiplatys or two and some Aphyosemions. In a perfect world, I'd want Procatopus, but I can't find them. In total, I'd like to add 5 killie species. I can't go through the AKA, so it'll be Aquabid from Europe.

I am seeing something I thought I never would - a tiny killie mania around here. The shrimp tank people have seen my killies and love them. They are popular in the auctions. In Montreal, they got $3 in the auctions, but here, they go at $20 a pair. People discuss them, and we have local breeders all of a sudden. I've been breeding mine just to keep them around, and had dropped a number of species because no one wanted them and they were filling up the fishroom. Now, I can find good homes for as many of the fish as I can produce.

Alas i've only got one - well a group of one species and one is all i got:

@GaryE The rachovii eggs will be due to be wet when I get them . I should see fry within a day or two and if not dry and try later .The guentheri are six months old now and they’re going in a five gallon with a spawning jar immediately . I should get eggs from them the first week to store . I fell in love with Epiplatys dageti when I saw a picture of that orange throat . Haven’t been successful with Aphyosemion so I’ll try these plant spawners and give the australe another go later . Once I’ve had a fish and didn’t get fry I feel like I have to have a rematch .
It is nice to see some Killie mania here . I hope more people give them a try . They’re fascinating fish and so colorful and beautiful .
