I seem to have acquired a neighbours fish tank (they went on holiday, didn't
come back). In it is one cichlid and about 8 other fish.
Can anyone identify them and the cichlid please?

and are they ok kept together?

Welcome freccle. That's a heck of a way to inherit some fish. I'm sorry but I'm not a cichlid person. They look like they are probably african rift lake types but you could probably get a better answer in the cichlid part of the forum. There are obviously more cichlid knowledgeable people over there.

The dark and light blue fish is Melanochromis chipokae, of the rock-dwelling cichids (mbuna) of Lake Malawi, Africa. Probably one of, if not THE most aggressive mbuna in the home aquarium. They should only be kept with other mbuna, if at all. I'd highly suggest rehoming it/them.

The other fish I think are New World Cichlids of some sort.
