What Age Can One Sex Livebearer Fry And At What Age Can One Start Givi

Well, my swordtail fry are almost three weeks old and still growing like crazy (seem bigger every time I look!). Now that their colors have started to show, I'm wondering when I will be able to sex them, and, more importantly, since some little brothers and sisters are on the way, when will they be old enough to give to my lfs? They look big enough now to not be seen as food for the other fish (although I haven't dared to put them in the main tank yet), but does anyone have an approximation at what size, or preferably age, before the fry can be given away?

some sex out from 3-4 months of age but swords are well known for being later developers, and having males (parents or even brother) can suppress some males and they have been know to mature after nearly 12 months of age.
How ever the late devlopers are always the biggest and best males you ever see.

depends on the livebearer and the actual fry itself. my 1 month 2 day old fry arent sexed yet, and still small, but 2 of my 2 month 2 day old fry r starting to show , 1 boy 1 gurl. i hav three 2 moth 2 day old fry altogether, but one is smaller that the other 2, yet bigger that the month fry. my livebearer always gives birth every month EXACTLY! course shes a mosquito fish and urs is a swordtail, but thats just my experience. my oldest fry were starting to show when they were a month and 2ish weeks old,l and the boy one in getting his colors and has a gondopodium, the gurl is greyish wite and has a fan fin, boy & gurl. good luck sexing them! -heart , ally86ozzy
