Woke up this morning to Dad screaming at me to get out of bed quick, one of my tanks had emptied onto the floor. He said the tank was fine when he got up, but a bit later on noticed it only had like an inch of water in it, this being a four foot 55g tank you can imagine what the floor looked like. So me and Mum raced around with nets fishing out all the fish, trying to get them out of the tank before the water disappeared completely. The emptying must have been quick, I had a betta in a breeding net in there and he was still wetly flopping around and gasping when we got there, no dry at all. So I now have 20+ fish in 30l of water in a tub with the two HOBS that run the four foot.

So now I ahve no idea what to do, I was pushing it with the BGK in the four foot and the only spare tanks we have are a 30g Tall, which is waiting for me to get around to finding out where the leak is, and a two foot 20g. I am not confident about fixing the seams on the four foot, a minor leak maybe but not a gushing roar, there is no way I'd be able to pull that tank apart and put it all back together.

I of course also ahve no money, so am going to ahve to try and get my parents to finance the money for a new tank, waht fun.

oh my god, that's horrible. I feel sorry for you......

Oh thats a bummer. Something similar happened to me a few years back. I thought I would be a cool dad and buy my son a pellet gun. Needless to say next time I went into that room I had to use a boat. Any guesses as to where the leak came from?

We managed to save all the fish at least though my BGK looks like he's getting ready to jump out, he doesn't like tank changes at all.

Well after examining the tank we've found that the silicon seal had totally split from one side of the tank, the front glass panel can now be moved back and forward. And just to make it better the tanks one week past its warranty, hmmm nice manufactures. So my parents ahve agreed to pick up a new tank and stand, since the stand it was on, as nice as it looked was MDF and is now like 5 times it's original size from the water. Sigh, so annoying I liked this four foot tank, it had thicker glass and no brace so I could run it opentop, oh well.

Hmm well this should be interesting, Dad wants to rebuild my 30g Tanks stand to put the 55 on it, no idea how that'll work, since the stand can barely take the 30's weight, We should hopefully be getting a new four footer tomorrow though, and the one that broke I'll pull to pieces and use for the pieces for something, might build a sump.

Bad experience. Maybe someone who has a spare tank can hold your fish until you repair or replace yours. A lot of fish stores in my area have old tanks they get rid of, may you could get a temporary set up there. And, I have some yard work that needs to be done. Maybe you could earn some money to pay the ole Mom and Dad back....
I live in Virginia though.

I live in the bush in Australia, as in as rural as you can get, there aren't any fish people near me, everyone round here are farmers. The fish are set up in a tub for the time being, with a heater, filter and places to hide to hopefully prevent them jumping.

Around here a tank and stand is $250 considering the virtually all money is funneled into things for my animals, it would take me like two years at least to pay them back for a new tank. Mum doesn't seem to mind paying for a new tank, and we'll get that tomorrow as soon as we can get the trailer back off a neighbor who borrowed it, its just whats happening with a stand thats the problem, hopefully they'll just buy one, as I really don't wnat to go through this again, if me and Mum hadn't been on holidays (I'm in Year Eleven, Mum goes to University) All of the fish would've died, and these fish are 8-9 years old a lot of them, seems a waste after keeping them for so long just to lose them because their tank broke.

Ohhhh you poor thing. I feel so bad for you. Its one of my worst nightmares, waking up and my tanks broken and emptied all over the floor. The room its in is tiled, but still! You're lucky your parents are so understanding, I honestly think mine would kill me!

I wouldn't say that, my Mums fine with it but Dad's had about three tantrums and then gone off and sulked, he wanted to build a stand out of MDF, something that absorbs water like nothing else. Not a very happy household at the moment, Dad has the old views that women aren't any good for anything but cooking and cleaning, and he got me for a daughter, if i got the chance I would build a tank, and for some reason he doesn't like that and generally does whatever he can to annoy me, its great fun, I'm still trying to work out which of us is the teenager.

oh what a crappy start, well put it this way it cant get any worse can it?
older men are stubborn(( yeah go, on try to tell me diffrently)), reach a compramise somewhere in the middle ( or at least try) just at the miniute you are desperate for a new tank and if he is the one financing it, let him have a bit of say, you can always alter it later. after making him feel it was an excellent decision but.....

if it any consilation you sound like me and my eldest son ( you and ur dad)
i hope it all works out for you and your fish sound like toght little cookies, good luck
shelagh xxxxx

Hmmm compromise, Dad doesn't know the meaning of the word, the only possible choice is his way, me being me I liked making up my own ideas and experimenting with things, you can guess how that goes down LOL. It doesn't help I'm really into woodwork/metalwork and know perfectly well how to use most tools, but Dad won't trust me near them, he won't let me open a tin of paint unless he's supervising, because I'm a girl, so how could I know how to do things?

Well after a few more arguments I now have a four foot tank, sitting on the ground, half filled with water filters and heaters and nothing else. The stand which is sold as ready to use had to be painted before it could be used, never ind the fact I liked the look of the wood, nope had to be painted. And of course we had no colours I would have liked so the stand is boring old white.

Oh well hopefully we'll get this thing set up at some point.

One amusing thing though is the stand Dad brought back is one designed for a sump, it costs more but Dad just paid anyway, teehee me and Mum would never make that mistake LOL, but hey I've got a stand I can add a sump to at a later date now.

lol good, thats called karma.
aww your his little girl and he dosent want you getting hurt, hard for you. but totally understandable from a parents point of veiw..
women are much smarter than men, just not smart enough to make them realise it.. yet lol :) good luck with it, you will have it all sorted in no time xxxxxxx

Me Man..Me keep fish....

I'm happy it's all being resolved for you, sounds like you have had alot of stress recently :(

LOl I wnat to use the tools though, he was away the other day, you should ahve seen his afce when he came back and realised I'd nicked a few of his tools to mix some cement to make DIY Liverock for my marine tank LOL. Rock turned out wonderfully as well.

Well I have the tank back up, for some strange reason the tanks a 60g, not a 55 it's taller then normal, but hey LOl, Lost 5 fish in total though from the constant moving, my gorgeous cellophane betta, a kuhli, a cory and some tetras.

make sure the Ausie authorities dont find out about all that water that you lost!! they wont be happy, allthough i guess you get it from your own water tank.
