My Black Shark just started getting pop eye or eye cloudness. His eye is covered in a white film. I keep doing water changes but i cant seem to get the ammonia down from .25 for somereason. I dont even understand how it could go up. Nor do i know what to do. I am obviously going to buy medicine for the shark but there is probably disease in the water now

Disease is always in the water. It's when fish get stressed and their immune systems take a dip that they get sick from it.

remove it to a cycled q tank and treat it with melafix

Well if thats the case then u have to treat it in ur main tank which I really think it wouldn't be pretty. As loach dont tend to like melafix at all so r other fishes:(. Why not get a 10g from ur LFS, they become handy when introducing fish as well.

Yea but even if i use water from my 125, to fill the 10 it still would have to cycle which perhaps would be too late. I have some fungus meidcation made by Aquarium Phuenmatics that treats cloud eye as well as other diseases.

That could work just keep an eye on ur loaches. they r abit too sensative to most medicine, too much medicine might burn there skin.

Need some more info on size of tank in gallons, how many fish and which type, water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, cloudy eye is a symtom of a desease rather than a desease in it's self, popeye eyes look like they are bulgling out.

Well size of the tank and the occupants are in the sig. The water stats read Ammonia:.25, Nitrite:0, PH-6.2, Nitrate:45. I dont know why the ammonia rised and it doesnt seem to go away. It is cloudy eye not pop eye. It actually looks a little better today, it isnt as white and has become more transparent. IT isnt covering his entire eye.

You will have o find out what is causing the ammonia spike, is the filter working properly.

Not the writer of this information below.

Cloudy Eye- Cloudy eye can have many causes. Look for signs of Velvet Disease, Ick, and Fish tuberculosis. However, sometimes this is caused due to bacterial infections. Symptoms: One or both eyes become cloudy, and take a whitish appearance. Fish may show signs of distress, and be off-color and behave abnormally. Treatment: Establishing the likely cause of the problem and treating it as soon as possible is the best way to prevent damage to your fish's nervous system. The incidences of cloudy eye can be maintained by keeping the water quality in a good condition, and adding a small amount of aquarium salt to the water at water changes. There are many good medications avai

Yes, thank you for your help, i will see what happens after a 40% water change and if the cloudy eye gets worse, if so i will treat it and hopefully my clown loaches will be okay.

You could always use some filter media from the established tank to cycle the q-tank. Also, you could always use some of the products that kill ammonia such as ammo-loc or amquel. I would never recommend them for a regular tank but for a q-tank that will only be used for a short period, they would probably work.

I heard ammonia can be real bad if the pH is above 7.
but i don't know how true this is.

Well my ammonia is only at .25 and my pH is around 6 anyways so im not too worried. But where did you obtain that information, it doesn't really make sense.
