I have a juwel aquarium set up with a variety of fish with two blue mountain shrimps and 1 armoured shrimp aswell, which i bought the other day...

ever since i bought the armoured shrimp, my largest blue mountain always sat beside him, underneath some bog wood, catching some food..

Yesterday he was not there. So i thought it was a bit strange as i couldnt find him either. I didnt want to disturb anyone so i didnt look any further.

Today, i still could not find him, and thought to myself what if hes dead! so i kept looking and still couldnt find him. Eventually i gave up and went to get some dinner...

As i walked down my stairs, my dad said to me... 'why was there a shrimp in my study room!!! '

i thought WTF!! how the hell was he downtairs.. i thought he must of died and someone went to put him in the bin!

But no! apparently, no one had been in my room, not even me! and he was just lying in the middle of the floor!

i know this is unbelieveable, but he must of jumped out of the tank whilst the lid was off yesterday, and then walked/ hopped down 2 flights of stairs!!! .... where sadly he passed away

Shrimps ar notorious for escapeing. Any little opening at all and their out.
Lesson learnt Aaron eh!

definately :byebye:

its quite a big tank so never thought they would go to the top and jump out

he was a good shrimp, im sad hes gone :(

Yep. Shrimp, crabs, etc, can climb out of any small hole. Do you have an air line going up through an opening in the top? If so, that is probably how he got out. They love climbing up air line tubing and escaping.

My brother used to have a crab in his tank. It would only get out on Saturday mornings, crawl across the living room, and watch TV with him :)

Yep, I used to have this happen every now and then when I kept redclaws. Usually I'd find them in time though. Although one of my mates had one disappear, assumed dead only to find it a few months later living in the water holder under an indoor pot plant :D

lol @ watching tv and plant pot!

i never realised it was such a common thing :S im going have to keep an eye on them from now on :D

I at one point had some algae eating shrimps in a 4-way divided betta tank, only about a week after i got them i started finding them on the stairs, or in my room... the tank was simply too shallow and they were able to escape by climbing up the silicone on the seals of the dividers..

Shame about yours, just goes to show if you keep shrimps or crabs you must have your tank covered entirely...

how do you tell the difference between a good and a bad shrimp??

do the bad shrimps hang out by the filter picking fights with the fish while the good ones stay home in bed??

sorry, i am having one of those days! :*)

I learned that the hard way aswell with my firsty blue lobster (pinchy)....he didnt get as far as your shrimp by the sounds of it but he made it a fair distance.

Since then I bought another one (Dr. Zoidburg) and Ive made sure there is no way he can get out.
