Weird Looking Bugs That I Might Use For Food

i found some weird little bugs that were swimming around in stagnant water outside. they are brown and are shaped like an oval, and their swimming movement is very smooth, they swim like a motorboat. im hoping that they are daphnia, but can anybody confirm this?

They sound like whirly gig beetles. They dive when startled but soon resurface and resume dashing around the surface. Perhaps not the best food since they are small and have a much thicker exoskeloton than most other food items of their size.

i looked whirligig beetles and those arent it they are about 1mm long. that should help some more
