Hello!

I just started my first fishless cycle on Wednesday night, and I've been testing the water twice a day starting yesterday. The results so far have been surprising!
First test (13 hours after dosing 4-5 ppm, using the forum calculator for ammount):
Ammonia - 1
Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - 0-5 (more than 0, less than 5)
pH - 6.6-7

Second test (added more after first test, but forgot I had added any, and dosed again before second test ):
Ammonia - 8
Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - 0-5
pH - Off the chart (high)

Third test (16 hours after second test):
Ammonia - 4-8, closer to 4
Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - 5-10
pH - 7.4-7.6

That's all the tests that I've done so far, is it normal to see nitrates so early? I have some live plants in there, but not many. I also used two (very small) sponges one from each of my other tanks in the filter. Is this okay?

I tested my water and the results were
Ammonia - 0.25
Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - 0
pH - 7.2-7.6
