So, just over the last 2 or 3 days, most of my larger Harlequins suddenly have really well defined bumps in their stomachs; It doesn't look like overfed bloating that I've seen. Is this something to worry about, or something normal that I'm just not aware of? Water parameters are spot on, but I am currently treating for ich so my water temp is higher than normal (keeping it at about 82,) and I'm treating with Kordon Rid-Ich. This is a new tank that has only been set up for a few weeks, but had a complete media transfer from my existing tank and isn't too heavily stocked right now. I'm very worried, so any words of wisdom would be appreciated!

Here's some photos: I have 15 harlequins in there, 8 of which are larger and I have had in my care for over a year. 7 were added 2 weeks ago, and are smaller. It seems like 4 or 5 of the larger ones that are NOT new are the ones affected.

not sure mate, waht are you feeding them ? I personally alternate flake food for 3 days, blood worm 1 day etc so they get a bit of a boost but dont get too used to it. i have noticed mine sometimes have these lumps but they are still alive (touch wood) after 8months

I feed a rotate of spectrum pellet food, flake/dried bloodworm mix, and frozen (brine shrimp, blood worms and veggies.)

Thats a very good varied diet you have going there ! erm, really not sure then, just thought id offer a suggestion. Read loads of new member posts asking stuff ( soming from me with 31 posts like im a big dog ha ha) and finding out they only feed flake food ha ha

my harlequins get this aswell and i feed them the same as you do mate i think it might be the pellets :good:

Its caused by gas. Do you sprinkle your flake on the surface? If so they will be gulping in air as they snatch it.

Put your flake in an egg cup with a little of the tank water wish it round then dunk into your tank. The flake will immediately sink to the bottom ans they wont be swallowing air. Also this gives any bottom feeders a chance to get food before its all snatched from the surface.

Thanks, Gilli! The flake I mix with water, but the pellets I don't, so that could explain it. The bottom feeders don't depend on my surface food much, I use separate sinking food for them except on frozen days. Just happy to know what it was so I can prevent it :)
