I bought my Betta on friday and added him to my fully cycled (with Ammonia) tank.

For the first 2 days he has been fine, bit shy but ok in himself. Today i have noticed he keeps swimming up to the internal filter and letting himself get pulled against the grate - at first i panicked and thought he was stuck but when i put my hand in he swam away - is this normal behaviour? if not what could it be.....?

He is also now lying on the bottom of the tank against the ship i have in there - like he is resting against it...

Please help as i am worried about him.

Thanks
Russ

My current tank is a JUWEL vision 180 with the bog standard pump (i think thats 600lph but it doesnt say anywhere) i have seen that there is a 280lph JUWEL pump avalible but dont know if that will fit or require a new filter. i also have 6 panda corys and 5 glowlight tetra in the tank, and i wouldnt want them to suffer if i turn the filtration down.

I've got one who does this with the pump. He is often up against the side like that when I get up in the morning. He swims over to see me as soon as he sees me though. he also likes to rest on the bottom of the tank up against his route master bus ornament. Either that or inside it! Hopefully it's nothing for you to worry about, but just keep a careful eye on him (as I'm sure you do anyway :) )

Hi i am Russ's fiance and wanted to report that Vadar (our Betta) had passed away by this morning :( i am so upset... :-(

We only had him since friday but after doing some research i firmly believe he was ill before we brought him home. His fins were always stuck together (sticky fins/clamped fins) and he wouldnt really eat anything without spitting it out. Last night he was just floating near the top of the tank or lying on the bottom of the tank barely moving. We tried feeding Betta Flakes/ micro pellets and freeze dried blood worms but he wouldnt eat any of them.

We have been testing the tank every night since we added the fish to make sure there have been no spikes (even though the tank was fully cycled) and the have been perfect.

I am now worried about the Pandas and the Glowlights even though since adding them they have been fine all happy eating, pooing and swimming round.

What do you think could have caused Vadar to die? and what will we need to look out for in the other fish/or can do to prevent them becoming ill?

lilfishie thats what i have come to the opinion, i am now just hoping everyone else is ok and it was nothing contageous *crosses fingers*

I didnt have time this morning to do any, just had time to fish him out and put him in a pot for burial in one of my plant pots outside and then go to work, but i will def be testing and changing some water when i get home, i just hope it is a case that he was an unlucky one and i will be able to find a replacement for him in a week or two once i know the other fish are ok!
