Weight Of Hood An Issue

ok so ive built (building) a custom hoood for my 4foot tank. the issue im having is that it doesnt sit completly flush on the tank and im wary of al the weight being on 1 or 2 spots around the tank lip and causing stress spots.
i was thinking about putting some kind of strips around the top of the tank so that it cusions the hood somewhat. any ideas?

it might look a bit unsightly around the lip of the tank, you could always put it on the underside of the hood, try using something along the line of draft excluding strips you can get from any hardware store !! (the stuff you can use round doors and windows)
