Does anyone know of a professional web designer that is capable of designing and maintaining an ecommerce site?
A bit of background, a mate of mine is setting up a sportswear/equipment sales site in quite a big way and he's looking for a website, it must be capable of holding over 1,500 products as well as managing the orders/payments etc
He will initially be concentrating on 4 sports but may well be expanding and he would need the website to talk to his accounts package which will probably end up being Sage to enable stock control.
It will also need to be simple for him/his staff to add/amend/remove products quickly and easily for both the text/pricing/photo's.
One other thing is it will need to maintain a database, though I think Sage would be capable of dealing with that, he will be selling via sports clubs and their members will get discounts via a code (or possibly from a referral cookie) and the clubs will get a kickback too and he will need to keep track of what has been bought and from where the business came.
I did used to have a link to a site where you could put your specifications on and it went out to tender across the web, but I've lost it. It's not a job for a hobbyist it really needs a pro with design skills on top of the ability to make it as bulletproof (and idoit proof) as possible, but he'll pay for the quality.
I know there's a few of you guys in IT so any thoughts? What do you think the cost of a site like that would/should be, he and I have wildly differing views.
