I got these from here.

How different things are nowadays!

The kids that age wouldnt even be allowed to do a paperround these days never mind work on that machine, they might hurt themselves, oh no... :S

Not wearing a seabelt  and on his own so would probaly get kidnapped these days :fun:

And smoking

Mad isn't it. I don't think we should go back to child labour but I definately think we over protect our children these days, they are such clever and capable creatures and we wrap them in cotton wool.

Having said that, this is coming from a mother whose son tripped over a book on the carpet and broke his leg  see his little green cast?

Its cool to see though how people lived back then.
If I could go back in time, that era in American history would certianly be on my list!

The question i'd like to know is, will people in 100 years from now, look back at us and think...wow they had a tough life. Having to work an average of 5 days a week!!!

Hmm... thats a good question.

I reckon ppl in 100 years from now would be working less stressful jobs then what we have now, as technology advances and humans are being replaced by machines and computers. so yea, life should be easier.

That being said, the number of employment oportunities would greatly decline maybe... and the poor will jus get poorer and the rich richer.

I am studying medicine now at university, and I thank my parents for helping and leading me make this decision of studying med. Everyones gonna need a HUMAN doctor no matter what "age" we are in.

Not much has changed smoking wise, every school day they are there, same time, same place, puffing away.......

playstations and xboxes will be on "Cash in the Attic"

i love old photos like that. it all seems so alien (except the smoking thing...)

What is it with kids and smoking, ok back then they didn't know what we know now, but kids today still do it even though they now that one day it could kill them.

They smoke to feel older and mature. Maybe they do it because their parents do it...I dunno....I'm quitting tho, 3 weeks without one so far!

Nothing has changed at all, below the surface. Its just that its no longer 'our' kids or the kids down the street, it kids in poverty stricken countries. We didn't eliminate the problem, just exported it. Have a look through your wardrobe and around your house and you'll find just as many products made by children working for next to nothing.

exactly
just think of the un countable Made In China tags on nearly every toy, shirt etc

just wondering Ethos, why would you want to go back to that time period?
So you could make your own clothes and toys with extremley minimal pay and to misbehave so you would get punished very harshly for petty things?

A bunch of kids hanging about outside some shops smoking fags.......thats something that hasnt changed heh heh heh.

Nowerdays in most parts of Britain the only time you see kids that age in workplaces would be after hours.....robbing the place.

Not saying all kids are bad of course, far from it, just saying that as others have pointed out child labour is still a very real problem while we have teams of 'hoodies' roaming the streets free to do whatever the f*@k they want up until they turn 16 without fear of any real punishment.

We had our last house burgled by our 15 year old Heroin addict niegbour, he was given a slap on the wrist and sent home to sit playing on my playstation 2 that he stole (among about £3000 worth of other things).....the world is a very unfair place, is it any wonder people take matters into their own hands to get justice?.

If Id known I was free to just steal everything I could get my hands on up until I was 16 without getting punished Id have been a millionaire by my 16th birthday.....no justice in the world.

I say bring in some kind of boot camp.
