Is it worth buying a wave maker to use with Seio pumps in a 180 RIO (starting up with view to have corals, inverts and fish)?

Can someone give some advice on this and whether it reduces pump life etc?

Many thanks

Yes it will, you can get a seio wavemake that reduces the current going into the pumps so it creates waves but doesnt affect life of the pump. But i seem to remember they only work on the m1100s i think.

The new wavemaker will only work with the new pumps. The old one's have a tendency to 'get out of sync' and so click allot before starting. The wavemakers won't effect the life of the pump if you have it set to oscillate between a high and low flow rate. eg 500lph to 2500lph at 10 second intervals. Only when you have the pump go down to a zero flow rate eg on, off, on, off. Will you ware the pump baring down. This is a more common occurrence with the Tunze pumps because they use a break to stop the impeller turning where the Sieos just 'wind' down.

Thanks for that. Do you think that a wavemaker would be beneficial to the beginners tank I'm setting up? Will only have 2 x Seio pumps in?

Great, cheers. Will leave it for the mo, more essentials things need buying!

Have you considered going the full hog and buying a Tunze Wavemaker.

Hi

I saw it and cringed at the price... Maybe sometime in the future when I'm more established!!

For the meantime, I will just buy another Seio pump and shoot for the 'random turbulance' approach, this seems well rated!
