my water in my tank is really cloudy, I added more sand while there was still water in the tank. It didn't clear up after 2 hours, so then i started to take water out. I just finished taking out 85% of the water and it didnt help. What should I do? get all the water out and then re do the whole thing or what?

I haven't added any ammonia nor any conditioner cause I'm trying to get the right amount of sand and the aquascaping right. But no that isn't the problem...

When I added the second batch of sand the tank was full btw.

Is sounds like you didn't clean the sand enough before you put it in, it should clear within a few days. What kind of sand is it?

Hi,
Not sure if you are just setting up or not as you didn't say, but this is what I do and it works for me as I only use sand in my tanks.

1. Turn off any internal filter(s) if you use them,
2. Make sure the sand is cleaned well BEFORE you add it to the tank,
3. Add the sand slowly, don't just dump it in there!
4. Once all the sand is added wait 2 or 3 hours for it to settle if you can.
5. Switch back on any interal filter(s) if you use them,
6. If there seems to be a lot of sand suspended in the water use a fine net and move it around in the water slowly
It won't get all the suspended sand but will catch a lot of it.
7. Check your internal filters again the next morning (as you will find they could become clogged with sand)

The water should now be clear and your filter(s) should be fine.

Please note: IT MAY TAKE LONGER FOR THE SAND TO SETTLE IN THE TANK, please treat this info as a guide only, afterall what works for me, may NOT work for you.

Please let me know how you get on.

Darren
