Hi I have a watermelon pleco and have noticed his dorsal fin has gone white on the edge. I am worried he has fin rot.

Here are images of the pleco

No fin rot. If it was fin rot you would see a raggedy edge to the fin. It is healthy.

Ichthys is correct it’s not a watermelon pleco though

Agree. Good luck keeping him I've never had luck keeping green phantom plecos.

I hate common names. I am not familiar with the watermelon so I headed over to Planetcatfish.com to investigate. Only one species came up with that name and it and your could not look more different.

The folks above hit the species I think, it has to be one of two,

Scientific NamePanaque nigrolineatus laurafabianae
Common NamesL330, Watermelon Pleco

This fish grows to "430mm or 16.9" SL." which means not including the tail. They have a ton of pics.

I poked around the site and think maybe you have this? Baryancistrus demantoides - L200, Hi Fin Green Phantom Pleco
or possibly this? Hemiancistrus subviridis - L200, Green Phantom Pleco

Fin rot is very rare unless your water is absolutely putrid and the tank is filthy. I would wager 90% of the questions here about are based on not being able to find good pictures of what the species are supposed to look like. Your fish is fine, but you'll need to get the latin name of it if you want to find reliable info on it.

Thanks everyone! So relieved that he's okay I was just setting up the hospital tank incase. Yeah he's. L200 green phantom pleco sorry everyone for the wrong Information. Also thinking about getting the blue phantom pleco plenty of room and hiding sport for them. 🙂
